Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure aimed at removing bacterial infection located at the center of a tooth.
Contrary to common belief, this procedure is not painful and can prevent the need for tooth extraction. Before the treatment, a local anesthetic is administered. This ensures a painless experience. During the procedure, the infected root canal is cleaned, filled, and sealed with either a filling or a crown. Subsequently, the inflamed tissue surrounding the tooth will naturally heal.
A root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp of a tooth is severely damaged by bacterial infection, which results in persistent tooth pain. Here are some common causes:
- Deep tooth decay or cavities reaching the inner layers of the tooth
- Infection or inflammation affecting the nerves within the tooth’s pulp
A tooth that is cracked, fractured, or extensively broken
We prioritize saving natural teeth due to their better bite strength and functionality.
Preserving a natural tooth helps protect the jawbone from gradual deterioration, reduces the need for invasive procedures, and promotes your long-term oral health.
